Yoga Journaling

Keeping a journal can be a great way to organize your thoughts, reflect on an experience, and record feelings. Using a journal can also be a way to deepen your yoga practice.  By documenting your thoughts and feelings during your practice, you can better process the mental challenges that yoga presents. You can also track growth and improvement with a journal, as well as jot down goals. This is a great complement to yoga practice, as you deepen your awareness of your thoughts, aspirations, and experiences. Explore your thoughts, in the same way you explore your body’s movement in yoga!

Prompts You Can Use to Start Journaling About Your Yoga Practice

  1. Why do you practice yoga?

  2. What yoga pose makes you feel the most energized?

  3. What pose makes you feel the most relaxed?

  4. Today, I’m proud of myself for…

  5. Describe in great detail your favorite place to do yoga. What do you see, smell, feel, and hear?

  6. What yoga pose do you dread the most, and why?

  7. Has your mind spent more time focused on the past, present, or future today?

  8. What do you wish to release yourself from?

  9. Write about an experience that challenged you, but also helped you grow.

  10. Check in with your body. Take notice of any sensations you feel in your body.

  11. Take a few minutes to write about how you’re feeling, both mentally and physically, before yoga. What is going through your mind, and how are your stress levels?

  12. Write about how you feel after practicing yoga. What is going through your mind, and how are your stress levels?

  13. Write down three goals related to your yoga practice. What steps can you take to reach these goals?

  14. How can I apply what I’ve learned in yoga off the mat?

  15. How has your practice changed as you’ve grown in your yoga practice?
