Shayna moved to Charleston from Little Rock, Arkansas in 2005 to attend the College of Charleston. During the spring semester of her senior year in 2009, she enrolled in the college’s yoga class and it changed her life. She found yoga during a time of great transition in her life: graduating from college, entering the “real world,” and dealing with a break up. Yoga helped prevent her from feeling lost when she had very little direction.
Shayna spent the summer of 2011 at her childhood summer camp in Mississippi. While there, she was asked to teach yoga for the sports program twice a week. Eleven and twelve year old boys would reach out to her after class, letting her know how much they loved yoga; that’s when it clicked, that’s when she knew teaching would become a larger part of life.
She obtained her 200-hr certification at Blue Turtle Yoga in May 2012, and immediately began teaching multiple days a week at any place she could get to. Over the summer she received a certification in Holistic Nutrition, and also went on to become a Massage Therapist. Shayna’s classes incorporate everything she has learned up to this point. She enjoys mindful sequencing, and focusing on opening the shoulders and hips so the rest of the body can follow. Keeping the class light hearted, and filling it with laughter and love is her ultimate goal. “I want you to walk away telling yourself, I love you body. Thank you body.”
“Serenity Tree Yoga led a private session for me during my bachelorette party in Charleston. They were amazing to work with from beginning to end. Melora was responsive and super helpful/flexible making our arrangements. Our instructor, Shayna, was great, as well! She made our session very fun and memorable. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend them!” Marnie
