My mom introduced me to yoga during the early years of my childhood. Nights when I couldn’t fall asleep, she sat with me and patiently guided me through savasasna (the Sanskrit term for deep relaxation of the entire body). Through this practice I felt safe and comforted and learned how to relax my mind and let go. For the entirety of my youth, my mom’s yoga practice inspired me. The way she moved and breathed through her practice ignited the spark that illuminated my own yogic path.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, I worked as a crisis counselor in West Palm Beach, FL, for five years. During school and in the time I worked as a counselor, my interest in the connection between one’s mind and body grew and led me to focus more on my yoga practice. I built relationships with many amazing yoga teachers who rekindled the light within me and guided my yoga journey. This refocus prompted my relocation to Charleston, SC, in 2003, to enroll in the teacher training program at Holy Cow Yoga Center. I received my 200-hour certification and taught in the Charleston area for the next 10 years, offering classes in private homes, independent studios, and fitness centers.
With more than a decade of experience as an instructor, Serenity Tree Yoga was born. At the heart of my yoga philosophy is you, the student. This is your practice; I am here only to guide you and keep you safe. I encourage my students to be in their own bodies listening carefully and compassionately to what their bodies need every time they step on the mat. If you want to sit in child’s pose or lie in savasana for 60 minutes, I encourage you to do so. I encourage you to remember the importance of a smile, and of a laugh, and especially of not taking life (or yoga!) so seriously all the time. I see my students as my teachers and I am learning and growing every day.
What I offer is the opportunity to bring together your practice with those you love. Whether in your home, on the beach, with a group of your favorite friends, or just for you, Serenity Tree Yoga is about you and your practice, your breath, your light. Yoga, to me, is a celebration of life. It is a love of what IS —a way to find calm amongst the chaos.
