Katie’s yoga practice started in college at the University of South Carolina’s gym. Her initial motivation for a yoga practice was for a sweat and a good workout. She soon started to realize the mental clarity she took with her every time she left class and started to dive in deeper into the mental aspects of her practice.
She moved to Charleston in 2012 after graduation to take a job in resort management. She found an oasis in Gaea Yoga Center and raced to the studio every day after work to combat the stress of her fast paced job.
Katie completed her 200 hour RYT through Gaea Yoga School in March 2013 and soon after left her job to follow a nagging wanderlust to Costa Rica, Panama and most recently South East Asia. While traveling Katie teaches wherever anyone will let her; at local studios, hostel lobbies, and the beach. She loves teaching groups of fellow travelers, all from different backgrounds, and seeing how everyone brings something truly unique to their practice. Katie’s practice if fun, playful, compassionate and always full of adventure.
Although she loves to travel her heart lies at home in Charleston, SC. She feels at home by the water and loves to teach or practice on the beach any chance she gets.
Yoga has changed the trajectory of Katie’s life in ways that she never thought possible. She is excited to share the practice with others and hopes that it helps them find a sense of calm, self love, and most importantly tap into the essence of their true selves.
“Seven of us get together for a girls weekend every other year. We have high expectations for how we spend our precious time in Kiawah, and Katie exceeded them all. Some of us do yoga weekly and some of us have only done it once or twice, but we all found her instruction to be spot on. It’s almost as if she is telling a story as she works through your session with her calming voice and manner. I highly recommend Katie for your next yoga experience.”
Our beach yoga session with Katie was the perfect start for our bachelorette weekend. She immediately connected with all 10 girls. She was knowledgeable and personable. The session was relaxing and everyone, regardless of their yoga level, raved about the session and in such an incredible location. Thanks a ton to Katie and Serenity Tree Yoga for an unforgettable experience!” Deanna
“I was in Charleston for a bachelorette party over the weekend and organized a private yoga class at Waterfront park for my friends and I. Melora was wonderful to work with and always responded promptly. She was unable to teach the class, but sent one of her staff Katie, who was amazing. Doing yoga on the waterfront can’t be beat! I highly recommend Serenity Tree Yoga.” Meghan
“We had a bachelorette party of 8 meet Katie at Sullivan’s Island. It was after a late night out, so we were all wary of how this would go. Katie was WONDERFUL. I’m not a big yoga enthusiast, but this made me start changing my mind. The session was a great mix of beginner and intermediate, as per our request. Melora and Katie did a great job of taking requests and being accommodating t our needs. We were worried it would be too cold to go to the beach, so we had alternatives just in case. But it turns out Sullivan’s Island was great, because we could walk around for lunch after. I highly recommend this as a fun group activity while in Charleston, especially if you are there to celebrate/commemorate a certain event. Everyone of us loved it! Thanks Katie and Melora!” Pamela
“We had a private session with Katie for our bachelorette party of 13 girls. She was so sweet and the session was absolutely perfect for the skill levels of the girls and for how we were feeling (we had gone out to bars the night before). The bride goes to yoga regularly and is very picky about instructors, and was so pleased with how perfect she thought the session was. Our session was on the waterfront and the weather was amazing even though it was November. Payment process was very straightforward (we used venmo) and she brought cute gifts for the bride and myself for booking. I would recommend this activity for any group that is looking to do a relaxing activity outside, it was the perfect way to start a fun Saturday and all the girls loved it!” Erica
“We wanted to surprise our bride-to-be on her bachelorette trip to Charleston with a beach yoga session. Melora and Katie were really great to work with! During the booking process, Melora asked us questions to help cater or private beach yoga session to our needs. She was very responsive and the booking process was rather easy. I found Serenity Tree Yoga via a blog on planning a bachelorette trip in Charleston. Each and every review I read matches up to our experience with Melora and Katie.”
“We had a beach house at Isle of Palm and the beach near our house was the perfect location for our session. Though the weather was a bit windy and chilly, Katie helped us make the best of it. Besides the beautiful scenery, Katie also lead us through a great session. She really catered to the various yoga levels within our group and provided us with a sense of calm and relaxation through each movement. I highly recommend Melora, Katie and Serenity Tree Yoga to anyone visiting Charleston!! At the end of our session, we all had wished we had lived in Charleston to have regular beach yoga sessions with Katie and Melora! It was the perfect activity for the best bachelorette weekend! Thank you Katie and Melora!!” Samantha
“We brought a group of high school students to Charleston for a week of experiential learning. Because several are athletes who need to sustain a high level of physical conditioning, we tried to build into our trip many opportunities for exercise. Plus, we stayed in the Isle of Palms and who wouldn’t want to use the beach for fitness?
Serenity Tree connected us to Katie and she came to the house two mornings to lead a group class. She was flexible, friendly, organized, and sensitive to our specific needs. The sessions were a great success. The participants began their day energized after an hour with her.
I recommend Serenity Tree to anyone who wants to add a restful, satisfying physical component to visiting Charleston. We loved it and will do it again next time. Thanks, Katie!” Fiona
